What a fun night in the MLB last night. Kyle Schwarber of the Cubs hit two homeruns and led the Cubs to an exciting 13 inning win in Cincinatti, Jacob deGrom led the Mets to a 7-2 win over the Nationals and they are now only two games behind Washington in the NL East, Nat Karns hit a homerun and shutout the Phillies in 1-0 game and Shin Soo Choo of the Texas Rangers hit for the cycle. Baseball is happening right now.

We have a full slate of MLB games today with a few series finishing up. One of the big highlights is Jose Fernandez and Robbie Ray in a battle of young pitchers in Arizona. We’ll have more on that later, but Fernandez looks like someone to watch tonight in fantasy baseball. His strikeout numbers combined with the propensity of the Diamondbacks to strikeout is huge. We also have the Tigers desperately trying to get back to .500 against Mike Montgomery and the Mariners. As well as Sonny Gray taking the mound for the Athletics who always manages to impress. There is some good baseball happening tonight so let’s not waste any time and get into the picks.

Our first pick is the aforementioned Jose Fernandez and the Marlins taking on the Diamondbacks. I can’t wait to watch this one as I think that Jose Fernandez is only beginning to scratch the surface on what he is capable of as a starter. In his three starts since returning from injury he holds a 2.37 ERA and has looked close to his old self. This match-up tonight though feels like we could see some magic. Not to be outdone, Robbie Ray has looked like one of the best young pitchers the Diamondbacks have with a 2.29 ERA on the season. The Marlins lineup has been hitting lefties a bit harder than righties this season, but I like his chances to keep the scoring down. In fact, I think this will be the pitcher’s duel of the night. In the end, I have to take Jose Fernandez but this one is going under.

Speaking of great young pitchers, today we have Mike Montgomery going to the hill for Seattle against Detroit. Montgomery has looked great on the road this season, posting just a 1.69 ERA. He’ll have his hands full against the Tigers, but the real problem for the Tigers will be keeping the runs off of the board. The Mariners tagged them for 11 runs last night and the Tigers season is slowly slipping away from them. I like the Mariners chances tonight against Anibal Sanchez. This will be a big test for Montgomery, but I think he’s up the challenge.

The Red Sox take on the Astros in our final pick of the night. This one is pretty simple. The Red Sox have been giving up runs like crazy lately, 26 over their last three games to be exact, and tonight send Joe Kelly and his 5.66 ERA to the mound against the Astros. I don’t see this ending well. McHugh is going to the mound for the Astros and despite his shiny 10-4 record, his home ERA is just 4.47. This game should easily hit the total of 8 runs.
