July 30th, 2015 MLB Tips

After a 3-1 Tuesday we ended up taking yesterday off to enjoy the insanity. The Gomez non-trade was just an insane story and one I think the Mets will end up regretting when they end up on the outside looking in of the playoffs this season. Gomez is such a special player with his glove and his bat would’ve been a big help to their sad sack offense. The Hamels trade was interesting as well and I hope Texas knows what they are doing. The AL West is always competitive and playing for next year is an interesting strategy. If Yu Darvish can come back healthy and the Hamels can extend his career they could be a dangerous 1-2 punch for the next couple of years. Just not this year.

We had a day off yesterday and we’re itching to get back into it so let’s just get right to it.

MLB Tips and Daily Fantasy Advice:

In a match-up of rebuilding AL East teams we have the Braves at the Phillies tonight. The Phillies have fully embraced the rebuild and are looking headed towards a very high 2016 MLB draft pick. They send Aaron Harang to the mound tonight who has been very hittable this season. On the other side will be Shelby Miller who has been a bright spot this season. His 2.27 ERA is among the best in the league and his record should improve after a win tonight.

Phillies hitters are batting .207/.275/.373 against Shelby Miller. He’s a great alternative to Chris Sale tonight at: DraftKings

The Brewers host the Cubs in a match-up of two teams heading in opposite direction. A day after nearly trading their star center fielder, the Brewers send Jimmy Nelson to the mound against the Cubs. Nelson has been solid if unspectacular the season and does his best to stay in most games. He’ll need one of his very best performances of the season if he hopes to compete with Jake Arrieta. While Jon Lester gets all the press, it is really Arrieta who is the Cubs best pitcher and ace. He should have no problem with a Brewers offense that has been very hot/cold this season. This game feels like it should be -200 to me so where it’s at is a strong value.

Jorge Soler is 5-for-12 lifetime against Nelson with 4 extra base hits. Roster him at: FanDuel

The Cleveland Indians take on the Athletics in Oakland this evening. The As are losers of five of their past six games and have officially thrown in the towel on the 2015 season. The Indians have mostly done the same as they are currently six games out of the second Wild Card and eight games under .500. The Indians send Carlos Carrasco to the mound today and he’s been great even if his ERA doesn’t show it. He’s striking out over 10 batters per nine innings and his FIP of 2.91 is far more indicative of his talent than his 4.26 ERA. I really like him against this Oakland offense that has failed to score runs lately.
