July 31st, 2015 MLB Tips

Updated: July 31, 2015

A solid 2-1 night last night was overshadowed by more trade deadline craziness. The Astros got a whole lot better adding Mike Fiers and Carlos Gomez while also completing their sweep of the Angels to regain control of the AL West. The Blue Jays may get a lot of hype, but they aren’t winning their division and will have to play a one game coin-flip playoff just to get into the real playoffs. The Astros won’t have to do that and that is a big, big difference. I’m getting pretty excited for these last two months.

Let’s get to today’s tips. With so much uncertainty in the lineups and player availability this was a tough one, but I think I found some guys that look really nice and have some value for us.

MLB Tips and Daily Fantasy Advice:

The big game tonight is probably the Royals versus Blue Jays in Toronto. Not so much for it’s playoff implications (of which there are some), but for the debut of Johnny Cueto for the Royals and having him pitch against a Jays team that now includes Troy Tulowitzki. Just writing that sentence feels like an OOTP league, but here we are. I really like Cueto tonight to come out strong in his debut. He goes against Drew Hutchison has struggled on the road all season, but played decently at home. I am not sure what that is all about, but nobody is that bad on the road that isn’t just… well, bad. I like the Royals bats scoring some runs off him and Johny Cueto doing the rest.

The midwest battle between the Cubs and Brewers continues tonight as Jason Hammel goes for Chicago against Taylor Jungmann. The Brewers offense is a bit of a question mark tonight and I think that definitely benefits the Cubs and Hammel. With 2/3s of their starting outfield gone, they could struggle to score some runs. For the Cubs though, I think they have trouble against Taylor Jungmann. He’s pitched excellently thus far with a 2.14 ERA and a 5-2 record. That ERA looks better than his real talent would suggest, but he’s still been pretty damn good. He goes against a Cubs offense that is one of the worst in all of baseball against right handed starters and I think that bodes well for him. We saw what Jimmy Nelson of all people did to them last night. This won’t be a high scoring game.

Jungmann is a good buy low pitcher if you want to load up on hitters at: DraftKings

If you are looking for a game that will be high scoring look no further than tonight’s Astros and Diamondbacks game. Both starting pitchers have ERAs over 4.50 and both starting pitchers are susceptible to the homerun. With the kind of hitters on each of these teams, this could be a wild one.

Paul Goldschmidt is worth his price tonight at: FanDuel

In the late game, I really like the Indians against the Athletics again. Last night saw Carlos Carrasco go for a complete game, allowing just one run. Danny Salazar could do something similar tonight. He has the same type of strikeout ability and he should also benefit from playing in Oakland Coliseum. Most of all, the As are just a mess right now and will struggle to score runs. Kendall Graveman is a favorable match-up for the Indians offense as well.
