A great 3-1 night here for us last night. The only loss came as the Astros lost a slugfest. We had the Texas part of the equation correct as CJ Wilson got the win despite giving up three homeruns and seven runs. On to the next one.

There are some great match-ups tonight as we have a potential playoff battle in Pittsburgh, a pitcher’s duel in Chicago, two more potential slugfests in Colorado and Texas; and a not so meaningful Yankees vs. Red Sox series kicking off. We have three games to pick today as well as one fantasy only pick, so let’s get right into it.

MLB Betting Tips and Daily Fantasy Advice:

A week ago the Reds and Cardinals played and Anthony Desclafani was able to shutout John Lackey and the Cardinals 1-0. He did this despite allowing seven base runners and striking out just three batters. To put it simply, he was lucky. It’s hard to believe that lightning will strike twice tonight. John Lackey pitched great in that win as he has done all season and if they can get anything close to the performance they got from him last night this should be an easy Cardinals win.

Speaking of great pitchers tonight we have Jake Arrieta going for the Cubs against the Pirates. We can talk about Arrieta all day, but what makes this match-up really intriguing is the pitcher on the other side of the mound: JA Happ. Acquired from the Mariners in a deadline deal, Happ is not very good. His stats were boosted this year by playing in spacious Safeco Field. He doesn’t strike many people out and he has a non-Safeco Field ERA of 5.98 this season. Add in the fact that the Cubs hit lefties better than righties and that Arrieta is on the other side, I’m honestly shocked this line isn’t higher.

Of all the ace pitchers going tonight Arrieta is my favorite. Start him at: DraftKings

While the Dodgers and Phillies line features a huge -205 Dodger line that I can’t recommend betting on, I can recommend using Dodgers in your daily fantasy lineups. They are severely under priced going against Jerome Williams who is getting lit up by hitters from both sides of the plate. The Dodgers hitters have been slumping lately, but I could see them breaking out in a big way tonight. I’m especially targeting the outfielders who are all priced below $3000 at FanDuel.

A pitching duel will go down between the Rays and White Sox tonight as Chris Archer goes against Chris Sale. These are two hard throwing, strike out loving pitchers who are among the best in baseball this season. They both are going against offenses that leave a lot to be desired and I think this pitching duel will live up to the hype. This one will go under the posted total and there will be strikeouts.
