August 21st, 2015 MLB Betting & DFS Tips

Updated: August 21, 2015

A big weekend of baseball is upon us with tons of big match-ups. The Giants play the Pirates in Pittsburgh, the Blue Jays and Angels battle in a possible preview of the AL Wild Card game and the Astros play the Dodgers in a possible World Series match-up. It’s weird to type Astros and World Series in the same sentence, but here we are. We also have the Nationals trying to right their season in a three game series against the Brewers. A sweep would be big for them right now as time is running out on their season.

There are a lot of games to get to and while tonight is filled with big time pitchers getting starts, there is a few games we like for run scoring outbursts. Let’s take a deeper look and see what today holds.

MLB Betting Tips & Daily Fantasy Advice:

The Tigers and Rangers face off in Detroit tonight in what could be a slugfest. The Tigers offense is capable of big things and today they face Colby Lewis who has struggled with the homerun ball throughout his career. He’s allowed seven homeruns in his past five games and he doesn’t have a great match-up tonight. He goes against Justin Verlander who has looked good over the past few starts, but still has that potential for a really bad outing. The Rangers offense is tough and could bounce back nicely from a bad outing today. I love the over on this one and will be targeting Tigers hitters in DFS.

Another game to target for offense is the Diamondbacks at the Reds. Great American Ballpark is always good for some fireworks and the pitching match-up is an excellent one for hitters. David Holmberg goes for the Reds and he has given up a crazy 2.9 HR/9 over 49 1/3 career innings. Paul Goldschmidt and the other Diamondback hitters have the potential to feast on that. For the Reds they get to face Ruby De La Rosa who isn’t quite that bad, but holds a 4.50 ERA over his past two seasons. He struggles against lefties and the Reds will definitely throw some at him today.

A big series is going on in Pittsburgh as the Giants face the Pirates. Jeff Locke goes for the Pirates and I don’t like his chances tonight. Over his past six starts he has a 5.13 ERA and faces a tough Giants offense. Oh, and he faces Madison Bumgarner who just so happens to be one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. The Pirates are pretty middle of the pack against left handed starters (they rank 15th in OPS vs. LH) and they should have trouble with Bumgarner today. With Locke on the mound they will need to score four runs to win this one and I just don’t see that happening with Bumgarner on the mound.
