As we head down the home stretch it’s important to look past records for some teams. Unlike in basketball and football, it’s rare to seem a team truly tank down the stretch. Some teams play their best baseball of the season long after they have been eliminated from playoff contention. The Red Sox, last place in the AL East, are a good example of this as they are 7-3 in their past ten games. The Indians, though not quite eliminated yet, are also a good example as they have been one of the best teams in the second half. Teams have different motivations in baseball. When you have to sell tickets to a ballpark for 81 games and get TV ratings for 162 games a year, tanking is just not an option. For today’s games we’re looking for strong performances from a few teams that aren’t likely to sniff the playoffs. Baseball is about being healthy, being lucky and being good. To make the playoffs you usually need to do all three at the same time and that is… how is that even possible?

MLB Betting and Daily Fantasy Baseball Tips:

Last night’s Athletics/White Sox game was a wild one as it saw 15 runs scored in 14 innings. Tonight could offer the same type of run scoring based on the two starters on the mound. Aaron Brooks is going for the Athletics and he has been really bad as a starter. In his last two starts he’s allowed 11 runs and the White Sox hitters have to be licking their lips for tonight’s game. He goes against Jeff Samardzija who has seen a bad 2015 just keep getting worse. He has a 6.03 ERA over the past 30 days and he just doesn’t quite have it this year. A lot of that is the bad White Sox defense, but the numbers don’t lie. He will give up runs, Brooks will give up runs and this one will go over. These two offenses are nice options in DFS today.

The Royals and Indians continue their series tonight with the Indians having a chance to get themselves over .500 for the first time in a long time. They have Josh Tomlin on the mound who has been excellent in his first six starts of the season. A 2.85 ERA and 0.73 with a strong strikeout rate has carried him and he could be a steal in fantasy tonight against this struggling Royals team. Kansas City sends Kris Medlen who has struggled as a starter, allowing three or more in each of his starts and never making it past the sixth. Everything is coming up Cleveland lately and I think that will continue tonight.

The Cardinals and Brewers kickoff a series tonight with St. Louis having lost 7 of their last ten. They are looking to rebound tonight and should be able to score some runs against Ariel Pena who has a 3.76 career ERA in the minors. He makes his second major league start here and there was nothing in the first one to inspire any type of confidence. Cardinals hitters could provide some value tonight in DFS. Carlos Martinez goes for the Cards and he has really struggled over the past month with a 5.60 ERA. This game should go over it’s posted total and we could see hitters from both sides put up some big fantasy numbers.
