2016 MLB Win Totals Odds

The MLB season is right around the corner and Bovada has released their latest MLB Win Total Odds.

The highest win total is the Chicago Cubs who are at 92.5 wins. They are expected to break the World Series curse this season so that’s no surprise at all. The lowest win total is the Philadelphia Phillies at 65.5 wins. They were one of the worst teams in baseball last season and are expected to be again, but I could see them making an improvement.

One team to watch is the defending champion Kansas City Royals who are at just 85.5 wins. All of the projection systems hated them last year and they won 95 games and the World Series. The same is true this year so the battle of statistics vs. the Royals will rage on another year.

As far as bets I am making I have two tips for you right now. I might add more later, but the ones that really jump off the page for me are:

  • Seattle Mariners Over 82.5 WinsThe Mariners were one of the busiest teams in the offseason and I think the improvements should have them near the top of the AL West all season. Adam Lind was a big acquisition, but I think Wade Miley will have a positive effect in the rotation alongside returning Hisashi Iwakuma. This is a team that was projected for big things last season that should make right on those projections a year late.
  • Cleveland Indians Over 84.5 Wins:

PECOTA, Baseball Prospectus’ projection system, has them pegged as the best team in the American League at 92 wins. This goes along well with how they played in the second half of last season after re-doing their roster and I think this team should win the division this year. That means they could outplay this projection by between 5-7 wins which makes it one of the “safer” bets out there.
